Field Report
The Rockley Downs are situated between the town of Marlborough and Broad Hinton,
and have become a well known part of the
Wiltshire crop circle landscape. A number of formations have appeared throughout the years
on the slopes of these fields since the early nineties. In 1997 a formation appeared in
the very field this latest design has been reported, but both of them are very different.
This latest shape, is a more simpler design to the Allington formation which appeared two
weeks earlier. Its pattern is also based on the three armed DNA, but this time the arms
are smaller in size, with 14 circles making up the entire formation. The floor
construction on
each of the circles, had the same quality to each spiral seen also on the Allington
formation. A combination of Anti and Clockwise
rotations are present, with a number of circles having the same diameter of 10ft. The
central circle where the three arms branch off, has a diameter of 20ft, with an
anticlockwise rotation.
The centres of the circles, have some wonderful splayed patterns, again very similar to
the Allington formation. Indeed, this design
certainly has many features which were present on its earlier sister, but instead of
receiving a pattern which could potentially become
more elaborate, we have a formation here, which I feel is a step back from the first.
Perhaps this was deliberate, as we may at times
predict formation bigger and better, but it would seem Rockley is an exception. I may be
proved wrong on the next sequence, if indeed there will be a progression?
