It was found on Sunday May 2nd and not on the Monday. Helen Robinson, a member of the Wiltshire Group, was in the area for the week-end with her friends from London. They had heard about the Alignment Formation at Milk Hill and wanted to see it. They climbed to the White Horse to look at it on the Sunday morning and then went back to the Barge where they were camping, for lunch. They returned to the White Horse in the afternoon at about 4 o'clock and to their utter amazement, saw the new formation next to the old one. They could hardly believe their eyes and she is adamant it was not there in the morning.

FIELD REPORT

Its not very often we see two formations appear in the same field. The Avebury area in particular has many large fields like East Field, which has seen on numerous occasions two and sometimes three formations grace its nearly half a mile crop.

In 1994 we witnessed a cluster of Oil Seed Rape formations near the A4 located in the same field. In 1999 Milk Hill is the latest location to have two formations in Oil Seed Rape, the first to appear was the phases of the Moon circles in early April. The new formation is regarded as one of the best to appear so far, and is only a few tramlines over from the other.

This design would appear to incorporate 14 circles placed in a ring around a central circle. Either side of the circle ring, are independent circles with standing tufts, and a trident shape, with a possible crescent placed on the other side. The overall effect looks quite balanced, and hopefully a report on the interior will be forthcoming soon.

We have a  telephoto shot taken from Milk Hill which shows how close the two formations are from each other.
