FIELD REPORT

Lenham1.jpg (6559 bytes)

This formation (the 6th to appear in Kent this year) is situated along the North Downs Way, and lays 25 yards away from a large chalk cross carved into the hillside commemorating the dead of the two World Wars.  This 230 ft wide formation, seen from the A20, sits well alongside the cross.

I was amazed that for a formation that is now almost 4 days old, that I was able to sense such a lot of residual energy.  I even detected this energy 10 ft away from the formation, as I entered via the tram lines!  The formation dowsed well with rods at the perimeter, & responded exceptionally well whenever the lay altered direction.

Although the centres of the circles weren't that exciting, the general flow & lay were quite impressive.  Far from being flat to the ground, (it couldn't have had many visitors), the lay suggested to me that an aerial view would show a ribbed or basket weave type of effect.  The largest circle is 95 ft in diameter and is swirled clockwise, whilst two of the smaller circles are swirled anti-clockwise.  What is particularly noticeable here is that there is quite a lot of sweeping into the walls of the standing crop.

All in all "it's a nice one!" - situated as it is in a very pleasant and peaceful part of Kent.  I left the formation via the chalk cross and couldn't help but notice that on a wooden bench nearby there was an inscription on a brass plaque that featured the following quotation by Hemmingway:- "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for"

There is a new formation - reported on 19 August,  a formation near Lenham, Kent. It is dumbell with additional satellite circles - 6 circles in all. It is visible from the A20 and near the war memorial cut into the chalk. Some Kent members have visited it and taken ground photos and measurements - they also experienced high-pitched whistles emanating from the formation. It is due to be harvested later today.
