A computer reconstruction of what we believe the formation may have looked
like, based on the aerial shots of the cut field. This may not be an
entirely accurate representation of the original formation, but it is as
close as we can manage. Photoshop artistry by AJ Samuels.

On Monday morning I heard that there was a big, new formation at Allington, and immediately arranged to fly. Agonizingly, when I reached it at 11:30, the framer had already cut it out. It was large enough to be our Grand Finale, but we will never know, for, I don't think enough of the design remains to show what it looked like. In my sadness and anger, I could hardly hold my camera steady!

(NOTE: I have done NO Photoshop alterations to this picture, except to enhance the contrast.)

At first glance, the design appears to be a kind of skull with big, round glasses! But, on closer inspection, the "glasses don't seem quite round, or quite the same size. Perhaps the farmer wanted to obliterate all traces of the design, and drove his combine 'round and 'round after cutting out the rectangle.

On the other hand, there clearly seems to be a small circle in the middle, with a suggestion of a larger concentric ring. There also might have been a partial ring that formed an equilateral triad with the two "glasses." But there is not enough room in the rectangle for it to have been complete. It occurs to me that the international symbol for biohazard would fit within this configuration - the small circle in the middle being a key component. (If so, it would actually be more accurate than the so-called Biohazard formation that appeared in Kent, back in June.

Personally, I would expect something much more uplifting for the Grand Finale. (I pray It has yet to arrive!)

After the destruction of the Magic Basket, and now this atrocity, the Circlemakers must be pretty frustrated with human stupidity. But there are many thousands of us who are grateful for all the wonderful gifts, and thank you beyond measure for a most spectacular season!
