A new formation has been discovered in near Yoxall, Staffordshire. It is in barley and has the shape of a Yale key. Visited by Nick Nicholson and myself we shall give you a full report shortly.

The formation was discovered this morning (19/05/98). It was not there the night before. The farmer gave us permission but he is anxious for most to keep out.

A Full Field Report

This formation was discovered on 19th May 1998. Most people who have contacted us about the formation have said that it was not there the night before, so we can be confident about the night it formed. After finding the farmer we found he thought most, if not all, crop circles were man-made. After some explanation he gave us permission to enter his field and commented that he would come down as well. "I might learn something" he said.

We climbed up the bank adjacent to his field to be greeted by a nice crop of barley. The field sloped towards the A515 between the city of Lichfield and the village of Yoxall. The road is currently under construction as a new bridge is placed of the river. This make it easily seen from the road. Indeed, while our group was examining it we had 4 other visitors.

The formation itself consists of a large circle with a tapered rectangle coming down from it. Around the rectangle on either side are rings diminishing in diameter. This gives the entire formation a look like a Yale Key.

Now it gets complicated.

The bloom was still on the crop and it was completely undisturbed. No footprints or crushing had taken place on any of the stems. But underneath, every stem was broken.

If it was made by the CircleMakers, they broke every stem. If it was made by people they did it with no footprints or crushing.

Report by Mark Haywood.
