Crop Circle Connector Field Report
Definitely the second major formation to grace the Avebury area so far this year, The Beltane Wheel being the first.
The design was placed along the A361, placed high on the range of hills on North Down. Its appearance is quite majestic as you drive along the A361 towards Beckhampton, and is located quite some distance from the road. A number of Tumuli's are scattered around the general area, as this area was once a rich farming land for the ancients as well as a burial place for their community The views, as you stand within the formation is something to savour, this can also be said for the floor construction itself within the design!
The shape consists of fifteen adjoining
circles, with a sixteenth eye feature connected to the rings of circles. A central circle
is
included some 50-60ft in diameter. The eye design itself seems a little out of place to
the overall design, but again has overtones of the 1994 formations.
The floor design was quite unique though, with a number of circles that had two centres within them. The ring of circles themselves had a connecting flattened pathway running through each one, but the crop was parted each side in two directions within the circles. This was a case for each one, but rotating clockwise and anticlockwise. An unusual Badger mound was situated just off from the eye feature, but was unaffected by the circle making process. The presence of mud was seen on the connecting pathway around the formation but this was due I'm sure to just visitors, as the crop inside the circles was completely clean. The overall quality of the floor construction was impressive, for example, a pathway was visible around the inner eye shape, with the rest of the crop flowing in two directions to make up the outer area for the eye. Small details like this, makes experiencing these shapes a joy!
A fantastic location for the second major design, and positioned perfectly on the hillside. Its certainly has the impact factor, just like its contemporary at West Kennett Longbarrow.!
