The 150+ footer appeared at Burderop Down, two miles east of Barbury Castle (Ord.map grid:SU 170-770), on the 3rd or 4th of May, in Canola/Rapeseed. The design is an efficient but artless rendition of the "Key to the Kabballah". Compare with the 1991 Barbury Castle Triangle - the Circlemaker's masterpiece - which was actually the triangular root of this very Tree. This is a pale imitation! Its incorrectly proportioned:the big triangles, which should be equilateral, are too wide. Perhaps the first investigator in it, I found only crimped, broken, and scraped stalks. We hope to have the first diagram from Peter Sorensen near the end of the week.

The CircleMakers have revisited the area around Barbury Castle, and have Transmitted a Tree of Life Formation into a rape field. The Tree of Life is an ancient geometric figure mentioned in (among other sacred writings) the Kabballah, a mystical spiritual text revealed to ancient rabbis.

Peter Sorenson reported that an estimated overall length is 150'. He writes: "The bottom part is very similar to the 1991 Barbury Castle Formation. (Peter refers to the 4 bottom-most Circles which form a tetrahedron). Peter was one of the first to visit the formation, in an secluded part of the Barbury Castle area.

The design is an efficient but artless rendition of the "Key to the Kaballah" (compare with the 1991 Barbury Castle Triangle - the Circlemaker's masterpiece). Perhaps the first investigator in it, I found only crimped, broken, and scraped stalks."

From Peter Sorenson's Broadcastable video of the formation, the ground shot's displayed completely snapped stems at the base of the plants, and crimped bends. These observations were only spotted in a certain part of the formation, and may not be a fair reflection of the overall floor construction. We felt these findings needed to be noted, to give a balanced viewpoint, but also the fact that a real phenomenon could possibly produce the same effect on this incredibly brittle crop.

Spanning over 150ft, again in oilseed rape, the formation has various oddities. Some of the 'paths' have varying interwoven layers of crop. The majority of the of the crop appears to be bent, although there is a considerable amount of broken stems as well. We at The Noise Room experienced a very disorientating effect in this formation which is something we have never come across before! We felt dizzy and sick almost as soon as we entered the formation. This feeling varied in strength depending on where abouts in the circle we stood. As soon as we left formation and started back down the tram lines, the feeling subsided and completely vanished by the time we had reached the car!

HYPOTHETICAL "GENUINE" TREE of LIFE

The Kabbalah formation that appeared near Barbury Castle this May is not,in my opinion, genuine. It represents a map of matter/consciousness/spirit of the highest order, yet it was rendered in a most banal way - lifted straight out of a textbook. The real CircleMakers would have exalted it (as they did the 1991 Barbury Castle Triangle), with spectacular grace and glory. Here I've just my mind roam free in an attempt to imagine what they might have done.
