Mystery circles bring smile to a farmer's field.
News cutting from the East Anglian Times, Friday 26th July 1996.
Funny Face: The field near Badingham which
now sports a grin.
The masked face appeared overnight in a field of rape seed between Badingham and Bruiseyard.
Mr Foster said: "Someone is having a bit of fun. The stalks of the old plants had been broken at the root so new growth had been encouraged, that's what the dark green areas are.
"It must have taken some doing, the person who did it is quite an artist."
At this time of year corn or crop circles appear in fields of cereal all over the country, but Mr Foster says he's never heard of one in a field of rape seed before.
"It's more than 20 metres wide and you can't make out the pattern from the ground.
"When I told the Farm's manager he thought it might have been caused by deer running through the ground.
"When I showed him the pictures even he was absolutely amazed, even he had to admit it would have taken some pretty clever deer to have done that," said Mr Foster.
Motorists on the A12 near Woodbridge are in for an eye-catching surprise.
They can see a huge crop circle circle in a barley field close to the road and the Seckford Golf Club. But farmer David Smith does not believe the intriguing design was made naturally and has dismissed it as a prank by unknown people.
Mr Smith has farmed at Great Bealings for nearly 40 years and this is the first time a crop circle has appeared on his farm land.
