This chain of grapeshot circles appeared in a wheat field
near Beckhampton on the 9th of August 1989. Andrews hovered in a helicopter just feet
above the crop as well as visiting on foot, but NO TRACK could be seen to enter or leave
any of the small circles. As the photograph shows, some were remote from the tractor tyre
lines (tramlines).
A larger circle in broad beans was seen to the east of these as the helicopter approached.
Ground observation revealed that ripened and brittle bean plants were bent over and
not broken, like their counterparts appearing from time to time in brittle oil seed
rape plants.
